One of the metro area’s largest parks, Elm Creek Park Reserve spans across 4.9K acres. This park features many recreation areas, including a sandy swim pond and a very large playground. My recommendation is Eastman Nature Center on the western edge of the park, which features a network of short and long trails and a well-established natural play area. Indoors you will find many interactive educational materials and an assortment of live exhibits for the area’s native reptiles and amphibians, but behind the nature center you can also quietly visit their resident great horned owl! The park features events throughout the year, so be sure to check their calendar, and plan to swing by in the spring when they start tapping some of the park’s abundant sugar maples!
