Eugene H. Hagel Arboretum & Crystal MAC Wildlife Area

The Eugene H. Hagel Arboretum in Brooklyn Center & the Crystal MAC Wildlife Area are two adjacent parks with very different atmospheres. The arboretum is a very small well-shaded grassy park with a little looping path encircled by trees. Young maples grow up through a shallow pond in the middle of the loop. The MAC Wildlife area shares a parking lot with the arboretum and neighboring Kylawn Park and the Crystal airport sits to the northwest of the two parks.

A trail west away from the lot leads to a long elevated boardwalk path through an open marsh. There are wider areas with benches to sit and the boardwalk gives way to a woody trail northwest before circling south across and around the marsh over more boardwalks and tree-shaded trails, eventually meeting back to the northeast corner trailhead that meets the Kylawn Park lot. Between the two parks, we have great options for a steady walk and an open picnic space.
