Sunset Pond Park is a large and aptly-named pond in Burnsville, Minnesota. A winding trail and prairie grasses separate the curvy pond from neighborhood backyards on two sides. A playground and corporate building cap the southeast and southwest corners of the pond and a trail at the north end leads through the woods on a beautiful path that will take you to nearby Canterbury Park and beyond! A small trail east at the north end takes you up to the road across a set of abandoned train tracks (we’re certain they’re well out of use due to the trees growing through them).
A series of small picnic shelters overlook the main path from well-hidden trails and two larger structures lay close to the water. Within the pond are small islands where you can usually spot a pair of swans. Sunset Pond truly is gorgeous on a summer evening and the main photo for this page was taken as a rainstorm cleared over the park!
