Veteran’s Park is a rather large park in Richfield, MN. It’s home to a large outdoor aquatic center, a miniature golf course, an ice arena, a playground, a farmer’s market, and a bandshell a fair bit of the visible park space is plain green grass spotted with trees… but the bulk of the park is occupied by legion lake, with tree-shaded trails circling around and between the lake and marsh. Be advised that Google Maps and Apple Maps both show a trail leading directly through the heart of the marsh. I’ve found the head and tail that suggest that this path may have existed in the past, but it certainly does not now. If you’ve wandered through this park confused, you’re far from the only one. The paths that do exist are lovely. Even though the north loop around the marsh passes quite close to Highway 62, the woods are dense enough along that edge that, in summer, cars are seldom within sight and sounds are reasonably muted. The marsh is beautiful and it’s well worth the loop. Some of the paths do get a little choppy, (which I assume is the effect of time on efforts to pave marshy trails) but should be passable for most strollers.
